How to Clean Wood Venetian Blinds

When you have wood Venetian blinds in place in your home, you can expect them to get dirty and dusty. That’s just a natural part of anything else in your house: it’s going to get dirty and it’s going to need to be cleaned. The question is how do you effectively clean wood Venetian blinds without ruining the beautiful wood. Below are some cleaning tips that can help you keep your blinds look beautiful all the time.

Step 1: Checking Wood Venetian Blinds

Before you start cleaning them, you need to carefully look at your wood Venetian blinds. Sometimes the blinds can end up with sticky places or stains on the slats. That’s going to require special attention. Take an ordinary paper towel and rub the spot to try to remove it. You may also be able to use a wood cleaner to help you get the spot removed. Remember these slats are made from real wood so there’s no problem using this type of cleaner on them.

Once you’ve checked the wood Venetian blinds for these spots and cleaned any that exist thoroughly, you can move onto the second step of the process.

Step 2: Cleaning Wood Venetian Blinds

Take a dryer sheet (gloves or paper towels will also work). Now close the wood Venetian blinds and run the sheet over them to remove any dirt or dust that has been built up on the closed slats. Depending on how long it has been since the cleaning, you may want to switch up dryer sheets part way through the process. Once you have them cleaned, you’ll need to open them and close them the opposite way and repeat the process completely. This is really the easy way to clean wood Venetian blinds.

Another Option

You can also use your vacuum clean to take care of your wood Venetian blinds. Do not use this method if you do not have a soft brush attachment. Other attachments or the plain nozzle could end up causing damage to the wood Venetian blinds. With that attachment, you’ll repeat the process above for cleaning the slats.

Know How Not to Clean Wood

Although some types of blinds can be cleaned with detergent or other types of chemicals to make sure they are made to look as good as possible, you don’t want to use anything like that on wood Venetian blinds because it can damage and warp the wood. That’s definitely not going to look beautiful.

It’s also a good idea not to stretch to try to clean high up blinds either. If you want lose your balance, you may grab for the wood Venetian blinds and end up pulling them down or breaking some of the slats. Obviously, that’s not something you want. Always make sure to have a step stool you can use to safely reach the highest slats on your blinds. Remember that regular cleaning of your wood Venetian blinds is important in their care and longevity.
